Bihar minister blames mobiles for cultural degeneration, crime

Patna,(BiharTimes): After some BJP leaders it is now the turn of a Bihar minister to direct his anger against the mobile culture. He not only stopped there but also holds the non-vegetarian food––besides cell phones––responsible for the rise in rape incidents.

However, chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi was quick to distance himself from the comments made by his Art, Culture and Youth Affairs minister Binay Bihari.

The minister, while talking to the media on Tuesday, said many students misuse mobile phones by watching blue films and hearing obscene songs which pollute their minds.

He said if you pay a surprise visit to any school you would find expensive mobile phones in the hands of students of higher classes. He equated this to the issuing of license for a revolver to individuals in the name of self-defence, but is misused for criminal purposes.

According to him for school students, a mobile phone with Internet facility was only a source of pollution of their minds.

Bihari, who is also a Bhojpuri actor and singer, urged that use of cell phones by school students be prohibited.

He said he would suggest education department to make surprise inspections to ensure that mobile phones are not carried by students in school.

On the other hand Jitan Ram Manjhi said mobile phones have both positive and negative features. They are not misused all the times, but it has both positive and negative features depending on what purpose a person uses the equipment.

Manjhi said Bihari had made the remarks in his personal capacity. He said people consume food as per their choice and the decision in this regard must be left to them.

According to Manjhi consumption of non-vegetarian food can be compared to poison, which can be used for manufacturing medicine and its misuse can result in death of human beings. It depends on how one uses poison.
