Theft in Giriraj, Sadhu houses ease task of Income Tax dept!

Patna,(BiharTimes): The recovery of huge amount of cash, foreign currencies and jewellery from thieves who have stolen them from the house of two politicians––Giriraj Singh and Sadhu Yadav––has, in a way, eased the work of the Income Tax department.

Incidentally, both the dacoities took place weeks after the parliamentary election, which has raised several eyebrows.

While Rs 1.14 crore cash, 600 US dollar and huge amount of jewellery were stolen from Giriraj Singh’s Anandpuri flat on July 7 a similar crime was committed in the Mitra Mandal Colony house of Sadhu Yadav on June 12 last when he had gone to his ancestral village in Gopalganj district to attend the last rites of his father.

In both the cases the concerned politicians had not mentioned in the FIR the amount looted from their respective house.

On Sunday, that is, July 20 the Patna police caught three thieves involved in the theft in Sadhu’s house and recovered Rs 39.14 lakh in cash, 1,470 Nepalese currency notes and jewellery worth crores, a laptop, a projector and three cell phones.

The police also recovered documents related to the purchase of two plots of land worth Rs 18.41 lakh and a motorcycle, which the thieves had purchased with the money stolen from Sadhu’s house.

Like Giriraj the brother of former chief minister Rabri Devi was quick to reply to the answer of the mediapersons: “the stolen amount and jewellery belonged to his relatives.”

Like Giriraj, Sadhu was called by Patna SSP, Manu Maharaj, to explain the source of amount.

Though Sadhu said that he had not even seen the jewellery and that the women of his family might be able to tell about them the excuse forwarded by Giriraj greatly helped him in at least confronting the media––if not the police and Income Tax authorities.

So like in the case of Giriraj the Income Tax department has swung into action. In normal circumstances it would not have been so easy for the department to know about the amount stashed in the almirahs of the houses of these powerful politicians.

The thieves were fully aware of the amount in the house, which may be even more than what has been recovered.

Both Giriraj and Sadhu had strong and right political connection. While the former is Nawada MP of ruling BJP and is said to be close to prime minister Narendra Modi the latter rose to prominence in late 1990s, when his sister became the chief minister after the brother-in-law, Lalu Prasad, went to jail in fodder scam case.

On the eve of 2009 Lok Sabha election he crossed over to the Congress but could not retain his parliamentary seat.

In 2013 he changed another gear and went to Ahmedabad where none else NaMo gave him time to meet. There were may red faces in Bihar BJP then but the party agreed to accept him.

However, he was denied the party ticket for the Lok Sabha seat. Yet he openly declared that he would contest as an Independent to ensure the defeat of sister Rabri Devi from Saran. The latter was furious over this step.

He later decided to shift to Maharajganj to ensure the defeat of RJD’s Prabhunath Singh.

Sadhu still boast of his proximity to the saffron party.

But will this proximity to the powers that be help him or Giriraj overcome the present situation caused by thieves.
