JD(U), BJP members clash in Council in presence of Nitish, SuMo

Patna,(BiharTimes): Members of the Bharatiya Janata Party and Janata Dal (United) on Thursday exchanged blows and hurled choicest abuses on each other in Bihar Legislative Council in the presence of former chief minister Nitish Kumar and his former deputy, Sushil Kumar Modi. The latter charged the former of instigating the clash, but Nitish hotly denied it.
The ugly incident took place during the Question Hour when JD(U) member Sanjay Singh, who was sitting near Nitish, objected to the leader of opposition Sushil Kumar Modi.
When Modi intervened to Water Resources minister Vijay Chaudhary’s reply Sanjay said he was suffering from some disease due to which he always keep blubbering something.
An infuriated SuMo, along with his party MLCs rushed into well of the House demanding that the comments be expunged from the records and condemned Sanjay’s behaviour.
After this the Chairman of the Upper House Awadesh Narayan Singh moved to another question, But he was forced to adjoun the House till 2.30 PM when BJP members refused to listen to his repeated requests and kept shouting anti-government slogans.

A scuffle followed as soon as the Chairman left. BJP state president Mangal Pandey, who is also the member of the House, and Rajneesh Kumar and others were seen rushing towards Sanjay Singh.

Upon this JD(U) members Neeraj Kumar, Ranbir Nandan and others came together in support of Sanjay Singh. The MLCs of both the parties then pushed and shoved each other.

Upon this some senior members from both parties intervened and physically separated them with the help of Marshals.

Talking to reporters Modi accused Nitish of instigating Sanjay Singh for the clash. He said normally Nitish never sits in the House for even five minutes, but today he remained there throughout the clash and was directly responsible for what happened in the House. It is simply shameful, he added.

Modi and Mangal Pandey said that the party would boycott the House proceedings in protest.

On the other hand Nitish expressed anger over the allegation of instigation. This is absurd and nonsense, he said adding that the accusations reflected the perverted mindset of the BJP members.
Notwithstanding Modi’s allegation Nitish was seen sitting quietly in the House.

Meanwhile, RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav strongly criticized Sushil Kumar Modi for what happened in the Council on Thursday. He said that Sushil Modi has the habit of spreading canards and rumours.
