Why Bihar Legislative Council is attracting more media attention than Assembly?

Patna,(BiharTimes): Of late Bihar Legislative Council is attracting more media attention than Assembly, though its strength is only one-third of the latter.

Normally it is the proceedings in the Lower House, which hits the headlines regularly during the session news. But after the June 16, 2013 split with the BJP and than again the resignation of the then chief minister Nitish Kumar on May 16 last changed the scenario.

Both Nitish and his deputy, Sushil Kumar Modi, are the members of the Council. So is the former chief minister and RJD leader Rabri Devi.

Now that both Nitish and SuMo are not ministers they can only attend the proceedings in the Council.

After JD(U) parted ways with BJP Sushil Modi was elected as the leader of opposition in the Council while Nand Kishore Yadav became the leader of opposition in the state Assembly.

Thus, both Nitish and SuMo, and to some extent Rabri Devi too, remain more in news than other leaders. They can still be considered as the chief ministerial candidate of the respective parties.

It is because of this reason that the media gave so much prominence to what happened in the Council on July 24 (Thursday).

Though on July 25 all the members, including Sushil Kumar Modi, apologized for what occurred a day earlier the incident hit the headline nationally because it was the former deputy CM, who was accusing the former CM of instigating the JD(U) MLCs.

Nitish too reacted sharply to the charge. It was only after Modi regretted for what happened and requested his former boss to attend the House that the issue was settled.

It is after the unfortunate incident of Thursday that the leaders of both the former alliance partners realized what have they done. After all the Upper House is normally not known for such unruly scene and members are expected to behave in somewhat better way.
