Bihar legislators to draw more salary, perks

 


Patna,(BiharTimes): The state cabinet on Tuesday approved a proposal to increase salary of legislators by Rs 5,000 per month.

Besides, constituency allowance and loan for purchase of car have been increased. The cabinet also raised pension for former MLAs and MLCs.

According to the principal secretary, parliamentary affairs, Sudhir Kumar, the monthly salary of law-makers would be raised to Rs 30,000 from Rs 25,000. The constituency allowance would be increased from Rs 25,000 per month to Rs 40,000. The amount for car loan would be enhanced from Rs eight lakh to Rs 10 lakh.

The daily allowance of legislators has been doubled to Rs 2,000 for staying in the state capital. The daily allowance for remaining within state has been raised to Rs 1,500 a day from Rs 1,000 at present and outside state to Rs 2,500 from Rs 2,000 currently.

The stationery allowance has been increased from Rs 5,000 to Rs 6,000 and salary of personal assistant from Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000. 

Sudhir Kumar said that pension of former legislators has been increased to Rs 25,000 per month from Rs 15,000 at present. There is also a provision for annual increase of pension by Rs 2,000 from Rs 1,000 at present.

It was only on March 31, 2011, the cabinet approved an increase in the monthly guest allowances of the chief minister and other ministers besides making a three-fold hike in the salaries of law-makers.
