Rebel JD(U) MLA files writ against disqualification move

Patna,(BiharTimes): Rebel Janata Dal (United) MLA and former Industry Minister in the Nitish cabinet, Renu Kumari Kushwaha, on Monday filed a writ petition before the Patna high court challenging her party’s move to seek her disqualification along with that of another MLA, Annu Shukla.
Renu quit the cabinet after her husband Vijay Kushwaha joined the BJP at NaMo’s rally in Purnea on March 10 and later unsuccessfully contested from Madhepura parliamentary seat on the saffron party ticket.
Annu Shukla, on the other hand, unsuccessfully contested the Lok Sabha election from Vaishali as an Independent candidate.
The JD(U) had, a couple of months back, suspended them as well as two other MLAs, Poonam Devi Yadav of Khagaria for campaigning for her sister and RJD candidate, Krishna Singh as well as Sujata Devi, wife of former JD(U) MP of Supaul, Vishwa Mohan Kumar. However, no such action has been initiated against these two.
The chief whip of JD (U) Shrawan Kumar, who is also the parliamentary affairs minister, confirmed the speaker has been petitioned to annul the membership of both the MLAs for anti-party activities.
A show-cause notice from the speaker’s office was issued late on Sunday evening and sent to the two MLAs.
While Renu got the notice, Annu refused to receive it. It was pasted on the door of her official residence.
Renu, in her petition, pleaded there was no complaint against her regarding any anti-party activity.
Reports said that Annu Shukla too may move the court.
The rebels are angered over the move of the Janata Dal (United) just before the Rajya Sabha by-poll. They have threatened to seek legal recourse if attempt is made to terminate the membership of the two MLAs.
Their leader Gyanendra Kumar Gyanu even threatened to move a no-confidence motion against the speaker, Uday Narayan Chaudhary.
