State government replaces Abhayanand from the post of DGP

Patna,(BiharTimes): In a surprise move the state government on Tuesday removed Abhayanand from the post of Director General of Police. He is succeeded by P K Thakur, who was Director General of Vigilance Department, a portfolio directly under the chief minister.
Abhayanand would now be the Director General Home Guards and Fire Services, a charge he was holding during his tenure as the DGP.
Incidentally, the 1977 batch IPS officer was scheduled to retire on December 31 this year.
Chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi said that Abhayanand himself wished to be relieved from the post.
On the other hand, while talking to the media, Abhayanand wished good luck to his successor.
On a question of taking retirement he said that he had not taken any final decision in this regard.
“However, it is clear that I am not going into politics. I would try my best to improve the talent among the youths and work among them,” he added.
He said he tried to implement several new measures in his three years tenure as the DGP. Some of them even started bearing results.
