Why NaMo failed to raise the case of Sohail Hingora’s abduction?

Patna,(BiharTimes): When former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee came to Bihar for an election campaign more than a decade ago in a speech he asked: “Kahan hai mera bhai Kislay” (Where is my brother Kislay).

He was referring to the kidnapping of a school-boy and thus attacked the then Rabri Devi government for the poor law and order situation in Bihar.

A decade later the party’s prime ministerial candidate, Narendra Modi, visited Muzaffarpur but he maintained complete silence over the abduction of Sohail Hingora, the 22-year old son of textile tycoon, Hanif Hingora.

The truth is that unlike Kislay‘s case the abduction of Sohail Hingora became a national news and the BJP members disturbed the recently concluded Budget Session of the Bihar Assembly for several days.
Leader of opposition in the Statte Assembly, Nand Kishore Yadav, quoted from the CID report to allege that ransom money was paid to the abductors in the high security zone of the state capital and that the deal was made in the house of a senior ruling party politician.

Rebutting the charge chief minister Nitish Kumar challenged Nand Kishore Yadav to prove where has the CID report mentioned that any Janata Dal (United) leader was involved. He said that the report mentions that no political personality, not to speak of JD(U), was involved in the deal.

The media than highlighted the interview with Sohail’s father, Hanif Hingora, who talked about the involvement of high-profile personalities in the abduction of his son and said that the eight people arrested by the police are only small fries.

Rupees nine crore was paid to secure the release of Sohail. But other reports said Rs 25 crore was paid. Sohail, a native of Gujarat was abducted, from Daman in late October and was brought to Bihar, where he was kept for a month.

His father had to travel all the way to Bihar to secure his release. In this regard he even met Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi.

But political observers are surprised as to why Modi did not raise the issue at Muzaffarpur rally to corner the Nitish Kumar government? After all is not it the fact that the BJP members stormed into the well of the Bihar Assembly for a couple of days to raise the issue?

Is it that Modi just forgot to mention the Hingora case in his speech or he deliberately avoided it? In the form of Sohail Hingora he got a big stick to beat the Nitish Kumar government as the victim is a Muslim.

Some Bihar-watchers suspect that Modi did so intentionally as one of those involved in the abduction of Hingora, perhaps has the link with the Lok Janshakti Party, with which the BJP has entered into an alliance.
