Between motion and emotion: The mystery behind Ram Kripal drama

Patna,(BiharTimes): If Lalu Yadav’s daughter Misa Bharati repeatedly told the mediapersons in New Delhi on Friday that she is ready to leave the Patliputra seat for Chacha Ram Kripal Yadav and the latter told the TV channels late on the same night that he is ready to accept her offer what actually transpired in Patna on Saturday.

Why it was back to where it all started on Thursday. On Saturday even Misa Bharati got very upset after Ram Kripal Yadav said that she had indulged in emotional atyachar (torture). Was it that Ram Kripal really over-reacted or Lalu played his own game? But then Misa did not go on her own. She was reportedly rushed to New Delhi by Lalu Prasad Yadav on Friday after Ram Kripal left for the national capital.

After reaching Patna Ram Kripal quoted Lalu that “horses are not changed in the mid-stream.” On Friday night he told the media that he was accepting Misa’s offer and now Lalu should announce his candidature. But in Patna no such announcement was made.

Sources said that Lalu, who was in Saran on Friday and exchanging ‘Jaimala’ with Rabri Devi, became angry over Ram Kripal’s behaviour. He left his house and never turned up to meet Misa who stayed there for more than five hours.

On Friday Misa had told the media that she would not leave the house till she meet Ram Kripal Chacha. “Where has he gone. Not to America. I would meet her tomorrow,” was how she said before leaving the house in New Delhi.

Ram Kripal conceded that he had not met her but only had telephonic talk with her.

Political observers differ over the development. While some say that Lalu’s stature has declined to such a level that now even Ram Kripal Yadav––a ward councillor level politician whom Lalu first made his party’s candidate in the by-election in the summer of 1993––kept his daughter waiting for five hours.

However, others are of the view that it was Misa’s greatness and political maturity that she rushed to Delhi and repeatedly told the media that she is ready to ‘sacrifice’ her seat for such a great politician like Ram Kripal Chacha. “If Lalu at all wants to project anyone as the leader in the next generation of his family he should bring in Misa. In fact he should have done it earlier and not waited for the sons to reach the age of 25. Misa has shown political maturity,” this is how a commentator, who wished not to be quoted said.

There is little scope for emotion in politics and if Ram Kripal really got emotionally blackmailed as he conceded than it was wrong on his part, feels some other.

Anyway the battle within the RJD before the actual electoral battle does not augur well for the party and its leader, who is fighting for his political survival.
