Lalu, Rabri performs ‘Jaimala’ four decades after marriage

Patna,(BiharTimes): Almost 40 years after his marriage the Rashtriya Janata Dal chief, Lalu Yadav, on Friday exchanged garlands (‘Jaimala’) with his wife Rabri Devi in Saran, the parliamentary constituency from where his wife is to contest election.

This public function was held at an election meeting in a symbolic handover of Saran to his wife to contest the Lok Sabha elections. Till his conviction and subsequent disqualification he was the MP from here. In fact he won the first parliamentary election from here, when it was called as Chapra, in 1977.
Lalu said in Bhojpuri that since he married at an early age in the 1970s and there was no ritual of ‘Jaimala’ (exchange of garlands) at that time he was doing it now.

His younger son Tejaswai was also present on the dais. As they exchange garlands the people broke into laughter at the meeting at Raipura in Garkha block of Saran district.

He also garlanded RJD MP, Prabunath Singh, on the occasion and asked Tejaswi to touch the ground from where he had started his political career.
