BJP’s brazen casteism shocks intelligentsia

Patna,(BiharTimes): Though the Bharatiya Janata Party is the first to adopt high moral ground on the issue of casteism a section of intelligentsia has started questioning the manner in which the saffron party is carrying its election campaign in Bihar or elsewhere in the country.

From top to the bottom all its leaders are openly talking about the backward caste origin of its prime ministerial candidate, Narendra Modi, when nobody has ever asked for it. When development is the issue why is it that the BJP leaders are using the word castes in their speeches much more than the leaders of BSP, Samajwadi Party, RJD, JD(U), Apna Dal etc or any such parties who are often blamed for indulging in casteist politics.

The party ended up giving ticket to about one-fourth Rajputs throughout the country simply because its president, Rajnath Singh, comes from this caste. This was totally unheard of in any party in the country.

As this move created a lot of resentment among other upper castes the party in Bihar did something unusual. A couple of days back the saffron party issued a newspaper advertisement with photos of 13 of its leaders––incidentally all of them Bhumihars.

“Never before in Bihar’s caste-ridden politics any political party has displayed such type of brazen casteism. What message the party wants to send to the voters,” asks a poltical observer belonging to Bhumihar caste. He said he personally felt very bad when he saw such an advertisement.

A large section of people, who are not supporter of Gandhi-Nehru family are extremely upset over the manner in which Priyanka Gandhi’s statement over the low level of politics was deliberately twisted out of context by none else but Narendra Modi.
