ED lodges case against builder-cum-regional TV channel owner

 


Patna,(BiharTimes): An Enforcement Case Information Report (ECIR) was registered against Anil Kumar Singh, owner of a regional TV channel as well as big a builder with political clout and Sanjay Singh, an executive engineer of public health engineering department (PHED) posted in Samastipur.
The ECIR, which is equivalent to an FIR, was registered on Wednesday against, Anil Kumar Singh, Managing Director of Patna-based Patliputra Builders Limited. The company has constructed several commercial and residential complexes in and around Patna, New Delhi and some other state capitals.

The ECIR was lodged against Anil on the basis of the FIR and charge-sheet filed by the local police. 
According to an ED official Sections 420 and 484 of IPC have been slapped against him. After watching his activities for a long time, the ED has invoked Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002, against him. He extended his services for money laundering to shady elements, including some politicians. Besides, he is accused in a number of cases in Bihar.

It needs to be recalled that Anil’s name figured in the list prepared by Patna police in November last. The list includes the names of 16 criminals and Maoists whose property could be confiscated under the PMLA by the Economic Offences Unit (EOU) of Bihar Police and Enforcement Directorate. 

Apart from a regional television news channel he owns an Audi car worth Rs one crore and the Hotel Patliputra Exotica at Exhibition Road. He has also invested in a private school at Ara in Bhojpur district.

According to an estimate his assets values would be around Rs 25 crore. An I-T department raid in 2011 detected his unaccounted wealth worth several crores. Anil had also been jailed a couple of times on different charges.

Another ECIR was lodged against PHED executive engineer Sanjay Singh for his alleged disproportionate asset. The EOU sleuths, had in September last, conducted raids at four different places in Patna, Samastipur and Dehri-on-Sone to unearth the alleged undisclosed property of Sanjay Singh. 

The ED, according to reports, would examine the source of his movable and unmovable assets worth Rs 3.49 crore.
