Alstom T&D India wins order to renovate Bihar power grid

 


New Delhi, May 21 (IANS) Transmission infrastructure firm Alstom T&D India, a unit of France's Alstom, has bagged a Rs.50.66 crore contract to renovate and modernise grid substations in Bihar.

"Alstom T&D India has secured an order worth Rs.506.6 million to renovate and modernise 132/33KV grid substations across various locations for Bihar State Power Transmission Company Ltd (BSPTCL)," the company said in a release here Wednesday.

"Under this contract, Alstom T&D India will replace ageing and defective substation equipment with new, advanced technology, including 132 kV and 33kV outdoor circuit breaker, isolator, lightning arrestors and relay control panels," it said.

The project, that will strengthen the transmission system and enhance power evacuation capacity, involves renovation and modernisation of nine different locations in Dehri, Biharsharif and Purnea transmission zones of BSPTCL.

Bihar plans to invest in revamping its power sector, and to replace obsolete infrastructure, increase power capacity and provide reliable and uninterrupted electricity to its 11 crore population, the statement said.

The new equipment will strengthen the substations and, thereby, stabilise the transmission network in Bihar.

"Alstom is pleased to contribute to the optimisation of the electrical infrastructure for the state of Bihar", managing director Rathin Basu said.
