Manjhi upset over Speaker’s action to deprive benefits as former MLAs

Patna,(BiharTimes): Chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi is upset over the Speaker Uday Narayan Choudhary’s decision to strip four rebel Janata Dal (United) MLAs of not only their membership of the Assembly but also their privileges as ex-MLAs.

Talking to the media on Monday he said the rebel MLAs were members of the current Assembly and the privileges of an ex-MLA for the current Assembly can be stripped. But those who have been legislators in the previous House should not be denied privileges. “I do not think it is right,” he added.

However, the CM said he did not want to speak on the termination of membership of these MLAs.

“Who am I to challenge the decision of the Speaker’s court? The disqualified MLAs can always approach a higher court,” the chief minister said.

On this occasion he made it clear that he would contest next year’s Assembly election under the leadership of Nitish Kumar adding that the latter remained the undisputed leader of the Janata Dal (United).
