SuMo blames the new liquor policy for rise in rape crimes

Patna,(BiharTimes): Stating that Patna has registered second highest number of rape cases after Katihar former deputy chief minister and senior BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi held the New Excise Policy of the state government responsible for rise in sexual and other such crimes in Bihar.

Incidentally, this policy came into effect on July 1, 2007 when SuMo was very much the deputy chief minister and BJP was in power with the Janata Dal (United). Hardly any BJP minister ever opposed it––in fact they always justified it on the plea that it had helped the state generate more revenue.

SuMo, who met the family members of the rape-cum-murder victim of Mahua Bagh in Masaurhi sub-division of Patna on Tuesday, criticized the district police for not yet arresting the accused.

He sought payment of compensation to rape victims in different parts of the state.

Citing data he said till August this year 816 rape cases had been registered in the state whereas 1,136 rape incidents had taken place in 2013.

He blamed the poor law and order situation for the rise in crimes and said that women are not feeling safe.
