File case under Section 420 against Manjhi, recover salary from his PA: SuMo

Patna,(BiharTimes): After demanding the resignation of Jitan Ram Manjhi senior BJP leader, Sushil Kumar Modi, on Thursday called for institution of case under Section 420 of IPC against him and also sought the recovery of salary from Devendra Kumar, the son-in-law of chief minister.

Once again citing the May 2000 circular issued by the then Rabri Devi government he said that the appointment of son-in-law was a highly unethical, immoral and an unconstitutional step, so the entire amount of salary and perks taken by the latter should be recovered.

Devendra had worked as PA, first when Manjhi was a ministerial colleague of Sushil Modi in the Nitish cabinet and than once again when the former himself became the chief minister in May 2014.

Sushil Modi further said that when Manjhi was a minister in the Lalu cabinet, one of his staff was caught accepting bribe at the Samastipur circuit house.

According to Modi while recommending the name of persons for appointment as personal staff one has to give in writing that he/she is not a relative. Did Manjhi give such an undertaking in writing? If he did, he has cheated, the former deputy chief minister said adding that a case should be lodged against the CM.

SuMo also raised the appointment of Satyendra Kumar, Manjhi’s nephew (bhanja), as peon in the CM’s office.

He said the state government should recover from Manjhi’s account money that Devendra and Satyendra drew as salary, as the chief minister had submitted false affidavits.

However, JD(U)’s state spokesperson, Sanjay Singh, said the chief minister was unaware of the circular prohibiting appointment of relatives. When he came to know about the circular, he himself sought resignation from his son-in-law.

Meanwhile, water resources minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary, while coming down heavily on Modi said on the one hand the BJP leader is attacking Manjhi for appointing his son-in-law as PA and on the other he is accusing Nitish of conspiracy.
