Bihar minister flays Centre’s move to lease railway land to corporate houses

Patna,(BiharTimes): Bihar’s agriculture minister Narendra Singh has strongly criticized the Narendra Modi government’s decision to lease out railway land to corporate houses for commercial use.

Talking to the media at Bhagalpur on Wednesday night he came down heavily on the Centre for giving the land which the railways acquired at cheaper rate from the farmers for its expansion programme. At many places in the country, the railways have started utilising these surplus plots for laying down new tracks and other related projects. But the land has been leased out for building hotels and other commercial purposes.
The Bihar minister threatened the Centre that he would launch a nation-wide stir against the government’s decision.Narendra Singh said, according to a railways provision, if the railway failed to utilise the land for its own projects, it had to return the surplus plots to the farmers.
