Patna,(BiharTimes): After keeping the post of City SP vacant for quite sometime the state government on Wednesday appointed P N Mishra as the police chief. He was SP, Sheikhpura. Rajeev Ranjan, SP (Special Cell), will replace Mishra in Sheikhpura.
Incidentally, the Nitish government had a couple of years back created three posts of City SPs in Patna––East, West and Central. But surprisingly there was not a single City SP in Patna at the time of October 3 stampede.
Sources say that the three posts were essentially created to clip the wings of the then City SP, Shivdeep Lande, who by carrying out raids on the business premises of some firms engaged in producing fake cosmetic goods angered several ruling JD(U) and BJP leaders. Later Lande was finally transferred to Araria and then to Raj Bhawan.
Police sources said that handling the crowd is basically the responsibility of City SP and not SSP, who has been transferred after the Gandhi Maidan tragedy.
What is surprising is that there was no City SP even when the crime graph has gone up.
Besides, posting City SP the state government on Wednesday made several more changes in the police department.
Vivekanand is the new as ASP (Town) Patna while Rashid Zaman has also been brought as ASP in Patna.
Z H Khan, DIG (Technical Services) has been shifted to Economic Offences Unit (EOU). Arvind Kumar, Assistant Director (Training), Bihar Police Academy, has replaced Khan. Nagendra Prasad Singh, Commandant (BPS), will be DIG (R), Patna. 
Vinod Kumar Chaudhary, SP, OSD (CID), has been made DIG (CID), Patna. 
Manju Jha, Commandant, BMP-15 (Valmikinagar) will be DIG, Kosi (Saharsa). 
S P Shukla, SP (D), CID has been made DIG, Munger. Chandrika Prasad, SP, Nawada, will exchange post with Arwal SP Parwez Akhtar. 
N C Jha, Commandant, BMP-4 (Dumraon) will be SP, Kishanganj, replacing Deepak Burnwal who will be SP (Security), Patna. He has been transferred even when the situation in Kishanganj is tense.
