Patna, (BiharTimes): Former chief minister and Janata Dal (United) leader, Nitish Kumar, on Friday finally broke his silence on the Gandhi Maidan stampede.
Talking to the media at Shri Krishna Memorial Hall, exactly a week after Gandhi Maidan stampede in which 33 people lost their lives, he conceded that the administration could not assess the turnout at Gandhi Maidan and failed in the crowd management, though he hastened to add that home secretary Amir Subhani and ADG (Headquarters), Gupteshwar Pandey, are investigating the matter. He held the administration responsible for the tragedy and added that no proper security arrangement was made. 
“There was something lacking in the arrangement and I think that precautionary measures for handling crowd management was missing,” he said adding that one should wait till the final report is submitted.
It needs to be mentioned that when the Chhath tragedy occurred on November 19, 2012 Nitish, within a couple of hours of the incident, virtually gave a clean-chit to the administration as he was the chief minister then.
He also dubbed the Bhojpur gang-rape incident as shameful. Five Dalit women, including minors, were gang-raped by some upper caste goons having links to Ranvir Sena on Wednesday night.
