Manjhi inaugurates Durgawati Project

Patna,(BiharTimes): After prolong delay Bihar chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi on Wednesday inaugurated the Durgawati reservoir, said to be the dream project of former (now late) Deputy Prime Minister Jagjivan Ram, at Badalgarh in Rohtas district.

The foundation of the reservoir, spread in an area of 627 sq km, was laid by Babu Jagjivan Ram way back on June 4, 1976. A large part of the reservoir falls in Sasaram parliamentary constituency, which he and later his daughter Meira Kumar had represented.

The chief minister recalled as to how many challenges came across during the construction of the project. But due to firm commitment of former chief minister Nitish Kumar, the project has seen the light of the day.

Manjhi said the reservoir could irrigate 39,620 hectares of land in different areas of Kaimur and Rohtas districts.

Water Resources Minister Vijay Chaudhary was also present on the occasion. He said the work of irrigation process in the project would be completed soon.
