Protests in Bhojpur and Patna over gang rape

Patna, Oct 17 (IANS) Hundreds of people, mostly of the landed upper castes and led by slain Ranvir Sena chief Brahmeshwar Singh's son Indu Bhusan, took to the streets in Bhojpur Friday in support of three persons arrested on charges of gang rape.

Activists and supporters of the Akhil Bharatiya Rashtrawadi Kisan Sanghathan blocked roads at two places to protest against what they called the politically motivated action against the three and demanded an impartial probe.

They also raised slogans against the state government and burnt effigies of Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi and former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

Indu Bhusan heads the Sanghathan, political wing of the outlawed Ranvir Sena that was founded by Brahmeshwar Singh.

Meanwhile in Patna, hundreds of CPI(M-L) workers and supporters protested against the alleged gang rape. They demanded harsh punishment for the accused and action against all those involved in atrocities against Mahadalits in the state.

Bhojpur is a stronghold of the party.

The six women were allegedly gang raped Wednesday in Kurmuri village.

A special five-member team is probing the case.

"The probe has found three arrested men, including main accused Neel Nidhi Singh, guilty of the crime. Singh is a former commander of Ranveer Sena, private militia of landed upper castes," a district police official said.
