Now Bihar CM calls for chopping off doctors’ hands

Patna,(BiharTimes): Doctors have once again become a soft target in Bihar. This time not by any minister or MP, but by the chief minister of the state.
Speaking at a gathering after inaugurating a six-bed hospital at Pakridayal in East Champaran district on Friday evening Jitan Ram Manjhi said he would have their hands chopped off if they play with the life of poor.
The chief minister asked the people that if the doctors are not available in hospital they should inform the district magistrate. If they get no response send a post card directly to him with details of the doctor and patient. “I would not ask for a probe but made that doctor sit at his home,” he said adding that “Jo gareebon ke saath khelwar karenge unka hum haath kaat lenge (I will chop off the hands of those who play with the lives of the poor),” he said.
Manjhi reminded that he had not hesitataed in suspending doctors of Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) when he found them absent from duty after the Oct 3 tragedy at Gandhi Maidan in which 33 people lost their lives.
Incidentally, a couple of years back the then Bihar health minister, Ashwini Choubey, now BJP MP from Buxar, also called for the chopping off the hands of doctors if they go on strike. His statement too was condemned by the doctors fraternity.
Recently, RJD MP Pappu Yadav, has launched an agitation against private doctors who, what he says, charge exorbitant consultation fee.
