SuMo charges JD(U) with accepting donation from medicine firms for LS poll

Patna,(BiharTimes): Former deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi on Tuesday charged that the three blacklisted medicine firms had financed the election campaign of the ruling Janata Dal (United) in the 2014 Lok Sabha poll.
The Janata Dal (United) has refuted all the allegations.
Reiterating that there was a Rs 200-300 crore scam in the purchase of medicine and equipment by the Bihar Medical Services and Infrastructure Corporation Limited, SuMo said its senior officials had collected money from the blacklisted companies and financed the election campaign of JD(U).
He released the Dr K K Singh inquiry report into the alleged purchase of sub-standard medicines by the Corporation.
He named two senior officials of the Corporation who were allegedly involved in the scam and sought a CBI investigation into the purchases. They favoured the blacklisted companies by placing purchase orders for medicine and equipment with them. They ignored the rates fixed by State Health Society (SHS) for the drugs and made purchases at rates which were higher by even 800% of that decided by the SHS.
He alleged the technical evaluation committee of the Corporation favoured the three firms blacklisted by Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Rajasthan.
According to the former deputy CM there were glaring irregularities in the recommendations of the committee as its meeting was held on July 19, 2013, but the members put their signature on the report in advance on June 27, 2013.
He said 63 drugs were purchased at inflated rates by the Corporation. Even in the purchase of equipment, there had been large-scale irregularities, and the Corporation MD and State Health Society secretary were involved in it. They are from IRS and central secretariat services and as the scam surfaced, they were offered to return to their parent service. SuMo said one of them, Sanjay Kumar, was private secretary to then chief minister Nitish Kumar, who also held the health portfolio in 2013-14, when the scam took place. He said the entire money for purchase of drugs and equipment was made available by the Union government under the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) and needed a probe by the CBI.
Meanwhile, rejecting all the allegations the JDU spokesperson Ajay Alok, said: Sushil Kumar Modi was trying to deflect the attention from the leadership crisis in his party. The BJP contested Lok Sabha elections with the JDU five times. Did Modi and the BJP took donation from the Corporations when they were part of the alliance? Three months have passed since general election, but why is he suddenly raising the issue now?
The spokesman said on many occasions, he had raised the leadership crises issue in the JD(U). Now, he is facing the heat.
