Piyush Goyal asks Bihar to renovate old power plants

Patna,(BiharTimes): Union energy and coal minister Piyush Goyal said on Sunday that Bihar has over 25 year old power plants which needed to be either dismantled or renovated.
Talking to mediapersons through videoconferencing from New Delhi, Goyal said only Haryana government has responded positively to the Central proposal to shut down old power plants.
He promised the state whatever it demands in power sector adding that Bihar was an important state for him and it would get special treatment from his ministry.
However, he regretted that the per capita consumption of power in Bihar was poor in comparison to other states. Industries do not come to Bihar because of inadequate power. The Centre is keen to provide electricity to the state which was getting its due of 1,918MW from the central pool.
The Union minister said Bihar has also been sanctioned a coal block for the ultra mega power project (UMPP) to be set up at Kakwara in Banka district. The UMPP will have the capacity to generate 4,000MW. He appealed to Bihar government to allot land and water for the project. There is no environmental issue involved in the project, he added.
