Manjhi threatens dharna outside PM’s residence

Patna,(BiharTimes): Chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi on Sunday threatened to stage a sit-in (dharna) in front of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence in New Delhi if the Union government failed to provide adequate funds to Bihar to construct multi-storeyed buildings for Mahadalits in urban areas of the state.
Addressing the Mahadalit Samaroh organised by the Mahadalit Adhikar Manch at Chulhaichak locality in Khagaul on the western suburb of the state capital, the chief minister said he had ordered the construction of multi-storeyed buildings for Mahadalits in urban areas where land is not available.
He said he would ask Prime Minister Narendra Modi for funds to build these houses. If the help does not come, he would sit in front of the Prime Minister’s residence.
He accused the Centre of ignoring Bihar and denied it its due.
The idea of constructing multi-storeyed buildings to house the Dalits living in urban areas was first initiated by the Lalu Prasad government in early 1990s. Ambedkar Bhawans and Ambedkar hostels were built for Dalits in Patna. Even Abdul Bari Bhawan was built near Dargah Road for the weaker sections of the Muslims.
However, this scheme could not be implemented elsewhere in the state.
