Bihar slips to third place in growth rate

Patna,(BiharTimes): Bihar has slipped from the first to third place in the growth rate in the year 2013-14.
Madhya Pradesh, with 11.08 per cent, has topped the list though it continues to perform badly in industrial sector. Agricultural boost and expansion in the services sector, have contributed to Madhya Pradesh’s rise to the top.
Uttarakhand occupies the second position.
Bihar, which had been topping the growth charts in the last few years, has been pushed to the third place.
Madhya Pradesh is the most consistent performer and managing an average growth of 10.2 per cent during last three years. Bihar’s average in the last three years has been well over 11 per cent.
Incidentally, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Punjab and Karnataka have faltered somewhat in these last three years. Gujarat, with about eight per cent, has been a consistent performer in these last three years when the country’s growth has witness a slow down.
Apart from Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Bihar states like Jharkhand and West Bengal have also done well in these three years period.
According to the data of Central Statistical Organization, the gross state domestic product (GSDP) of Madhya Pradesh was 11.08 per cent in 2013-14 at constant prices, up from 9.9 per cent in 2012-13. In March 2014, its GSDP stood at Rs 2,38,530 crore.
Madhya Pradesh now ranks second highest in foodgrains production in the country, only after Uttar Pradesh, while non-food crops, especially oilseeds, also showed encouraging growth. The growth in agriculture is largely being attributed to the additional irrigation facilities created in the state in the last three years.
Bihar, on the other hand, witnessed a construction-driven boom. The industrial scene remained as sluggish as ever and agriculture sector too did not witness any big jump.
