Police rescue married woman confined to bathrood for three years

Patna,(BiharTimes): Police in Darbhanga on Sunday rescued a 25-year old married woman allegedly confined to a bathroom by her husband and in-laws for the last three years as she failed to fulfil the dowry demands.

She was rescued from a house in Rambagh locality of Darbhanga town.

The SHO of Women Police Station, Seema Kumari, found her in pitiable condition with tattered clothes, unkempt dry hair and overgrown nails. She could barely open her eyes in the sunlight, as she had survived in darkness and dim light in the small space.

The victim revealed to the police that she was thrown into the bathroom and locked there and not allowed to see her three- year old daughter, and given leftover food and that too irregularly.

According to her the in-laws were seeking revenge for not bringing enough dowry and giving birth to a girl child.

She was married to Prabhat Kumar Singh in 2010. Soon after the marriage, her husband and in-laws allegedly started torturing her for more dowry.

She was rescued after much effort by her father Shyam Sundar Singh.
