CM asks Mahadalits to shun alcoholism

Patna,(BiharTimes): Bihar chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi said that though he had not taken a single drop of liquor in his 70 years of life he feels nothing wrong if one consumes a little bit of it after dinner.

Speaking at a conference of mahadalits at Rupaspur near Patna on Sunday the chief minister said that during childhood he made it a condition to go to school only after his father Ramjit Manjhi gives up drinking.

However, he does not consider it wrong if a person comes home in the evening, consumes a ‘pauva’ (quarter) of alcohol before going off to sleep.

He advised the mahadalits that they should take liquor as medicine if they were unable to give it up and added that alcohol is a bane of society and has ruined many families.

It is because of addiction that the Mahadalits are not able to look after their children properly or improve their lifestyle.

He said that the Mahadalits should also give up superstition and other social vices.
