Four held for alleged forced conversion in Bihar

Patna, Sep 11 (IANS) Four of the seven people accused of forcing to convert a Dalit family to Islam have been arrested in Bihar's Sitamarhi district, police said Thursday.

District Superintendent of Police Nawal Kishore Singh said a police case was registered against seven people last Sunday in Pupri area on the basis of a complaint by Yasoda Devi, a resident of Rampur Khurd village.

In her first information report (FIR), Yasoda said some villagers had forcibly converted her husband Rajkishore Ram to Islam. She said that when she and other family members protested, the villagers asked them to embrace Islam like her husband did.

However, the husband told police that he had converted to Islam on his own will.

The official said two people were arrested Wednesday while the other two were arrested Thursday.

Singh also said Yasoda has sought security for her family after the villagers threatened to kill her and other family members if they did not convert.
