Hindi being ignored in the land of its birth, regrets Goa Governor

Patna,(BiharTimes): Noted Hindi writer and Goa governor Mridula Sinha has pleaded for starting marriage counselling centres in all universities for inculcating the true spirit of marriage in young minds.
Delivering a talk on “Growing impact of Hindi as a Global Language” at Patna College on Saturday on the occasion of Hindi Diwas Sinha, who is originally from Bihar, said the present generation hardly understands the meaning of marriage.
“It is not a source of entertainment, rather a social responsibility,” she said adding that there is nothing wrong with love marriages but the couple must understand each other well before tying the nuptial knot.
Sinha, who champions the cause of women empowerment in her writings, said love marriages begin to face problem within three to six months because most couples do not know the real concept of marriage.
She said that even though she writes regularly on issues related to women empowerment, she does not pretend to be a feminist.
The newly appointed governor of Goa said she strongly believes in family culture as women alone cannot ensure a balanced development of the society.
She called for a change in mindset if Hindi was to progress and added while Hindi is gaining ground in different parts of the world and is likely to become a language of the United Nations, it is being ignored in its own land.
She regretted that it has become a fashion among the educated parents to talk to their children in English. Without changing the mindset there is hardly any scope of Hindi progressing.
She said just celebrating Hindi Diwas for a day would not help the cause of the language.
However, Sinha hoped that days are not far off when it would be recognized as a leading medium of communication through the world as it is fast making inroads into the technological world.
