Mahadalit girl from Bihar is new JNUSU general secretary


Patna,(BiharTimes): A Mahadalit girl from Korodihri village under Sahar block of Bhojpur district, Chintu Kumari, has been elected the new general secretary of Jawaharlal Nehru University Students Union (JNUSU), while Ashutosh Kumar, an OBC from Barh in Patna district, has been elected its new president.
Both belong to All India Students Association (AISA), the students’ wing of CPI-ML (Liberation). AISA has won all four central panel posts in the election this time too.
Chintu (23) is doing MPhil on Politics of Land Reforms in Bihar'.. After doing BA (Hons) with first division in Political Science from Indraprastha College, Delhi, she joined JNU in the Centre for Political Studies for post-graduation course.
Sahar block was once a Naxalite bastion and her father, Lalji Ram, is still a committed CPI-ML leader in Bhojpur district. Her mother still sells ‘churi’ (bangles) from door-to-door in the remote areas of the block.
On the other hand Ashutosh Kumar did his Plus Two from A N College, Barh and graduation from BHU in Political Science. He is doing PhD in Russian Studies from School of International Studies, JNU.
His father Parmanand Yadav is station master at Patna junction and stays in Railway Colony, Danapur.
The two other AISA candidates who got elected to key posts are not from Bihar. They are Anant Prakash Narayan (vice-president) and Shafqat Hussain Butt (joint secretary).
