Doctors down shutters after Pappu Yadav ‘fixes’ consultation fee

Patna,(BiharTimes): Doctors of Saharsa and Madhepura districts of Bihar on Wednesday downed shutters of their clinics and hospitals to protest the fees ‘imposed’ by the RJD MP, Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav.

The Madhepura MP had last week launched a drive against ‘exorbitant’ consultation fees charged by them.

This is not the first time that Pappu has fixed fees of the doctors in Kosi belt.

Though the people in general support this move the local doctors as well as some people’s representatives met district authorities in Saharsa and sought action against the MP.

The Indian Medical Association has strongly opposed, what they call Pappu’s diktat and is planning to chalk out its course of action.

According to the rate fixed by Pappu a doctor with an MBBS degree should not charge more than Rs.100, an MD Rs.200 and those with experience of 25 years or more up to Rs. 300 from each patient. He also fixed Rs. 60 for an X-ray and Rs.150-200 for an Ultrasound test. Since last week the MP has been visiting clinics and hospitals to monitor the implementation of the diktat.

Pappu said he can not see the poor people of Kosi area die because of the exorbitant fees of doctors. They should not be asked to get the test done at a particular centre or compelled to buy medicines of a particular company or shop.

Meanwhile, BJP’s Saharsa MLA Alok Ranjan, along with a delegation, met the district magistrate to complain about the way Pappu had raided the clinics and pathological centres. This had instilled a sense of fear in the minds of doctors.
