Parasbigha massacre accused arrested after 34 years

 


Patna,(BiharTimes): The main accused of Parasbigha massacre of 1980 Vinay Singh was on Thursday arrested by Patna Police from his son’s flat in the state capital.

The police acted on a tip off provided by close relatives of the victims of the Parasbigha carnage about the movement of Vinay Singh. Several Dalits were killed at the hands of landed upper caste in Parasbigha village in Gaya district in 1980.

According to SSP, Manu Maharaj a police team of women unit raided the flat and arrested Vinay who was hiding in a heap of clothes in a room.

The SSP told reporters that though he was convicted by the Supreme Court in 1996 and the police had tried to arrest him from Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand and Assam, yet he always succeeded in giving a slip to them.

Manu Maharaj also said that sometimes back Vinay’s family had performed his last rites and other rituals in a bid to convince the police about his death. However, the police did not take seriously their diversionary tactics and continued to hunt for him.
