Bihar governor’s son is Shiv Sena candidate in Maharashtra

Patna,(BiharTimes): The son of Bihar governor, D Y Patil, on Saturday joined the electoral race as a Shiv Sena candidate from the Karad South Assembly constituency.

Ajeenkya Patil would be taking on chief minister Prithviraj Chavan, who is already facing a challenge from disgruntled Congress MLA Vilas Patil Undalkar, who has filed his nomination papers as an Independent candidate.

Ajeenkya is the younger brother of Satej Patil, minister of state for home in the Chavan cabinet. He is a new entrant into politics.

Though his family has a long association with the Congress he told the media that he would be contesting the election to spread the vision of Shiv Sena. Any Maharashtrian can contest from any constituency.

Since Chavan took as the Maharashtra chief minister in 2010, Satej has been a close confidant and assistant to the leader in state politics.

Reports from Kolhapur, however, said that the Patil family has extended support to Chavan during his one of the difficult elections in his political life. This is the first time that the chief minister is contesting Assembly election.

When he filed his nomination papers on Saturday he was accompanied by Satej in Karad. Satej will lead, plan and execute his campaign.

Reports also said that Ajeenkya’s nomination may help Chavan in his battle against Undalkar, a seven-time MLA from the constituency. Undalkar has refused to accept the party diktat and filed his nomination from the constituency. In fact the Nationalist Congress Party too was offering ticket to him, but the talks failed.

Atul Bhosale is the BJP candidate from the constituency.

Ajeenkya is the pro-chancellor of Padmashree Dr D Y Patil University, Belapur, Navi Mumbai. He studied in Richmond College, United Kingdom and has done specialization in marketing from The London School of Economics.
