Tej Pratap announces his candidature from Mahua Assembly seat: Reports

Patna,(BiharTimes: Lalu Prasad’s eldest son, Tej Pratap, is reportedly the first person to declare his candidature to contest the 2015 Assembly election from Bihar. If reports are to be believed Tej, who was present in the national executive meeting of the RJD in Patna on April 5 had, a couple of days back, announced his candidature from the Mahua Assembly segment of Vaishali district of north Bihar.

He did so at a public meeting in Mahua after visiting a few villages. Mahua is at present represented by Ravindra Rai, the rebel Janata Dal (United) MLA, whose membership of the Bihar Assembly was terminated by the Speaker last year. In fact only on April 7 a double-judge bench of the Patna high court upheld the Speaker Uday Narayan Chaudhary’s ruling.

Ravindra now alleges that both Nitish Kumar and Lalu conspired to join hands so that he could not contest the Assembly election. Apart from Tej Pratap, who till recently was not too much interested in politics, his yonger brother, Tejaswai, may also throw his hat in the ring. If the media reports are to be believed he may contest from Raghopur Assembly segment, also of Vaishali district. His mother Rabri Devi had represented the seat thrice in the House. However, Janata Dal (United)’s Satish Kumar, defeated her in the 2010 Assembly election.

Reports also said that her daughter, Misa Bharati, who unsuccessfully contested the Pataliputra parliamentary seat last year, may contest from Maner. This seat is presently being represented by Bhai Virendra of the RJD.All the three seats are at present represented by Yadavs as they have a big population in them.

Lalu’s spouse and former CM, Rabri Devi, is already a member of the Bihar Legislative Council, while the RJD supremo himself can not fight the election as he was convicted by the Ranchi CBI court in a fodder scam case Sep-Oct 2013.However, analysts are of the view that changing two sitting candidates would not be an easy task for the new merged party in Bihar.
