Woman MLAs almost come to blows in Bihar Assembly over non-issue

Patna,(BiharTimes): Two woman MLAs almost came to blows in the Bihar Assembly in Zero Hour on Wednesday. The irony is that they clashed for several minutes on a non-issue with the entire House watching the scene helplessly. The Speaker, Uday Narayan Chaudhary, did try but to no avail. Having failed in his attempt he adjourned the House till 2:00 PM, but the two ladies continued to clash. They took the battle to the Speaker’s chamber too.

It all started when the BJP MLA, Bhagirathi Devi, who represents Ramnagar SC reserved seat got angry with Annu Shukla, JD(U) MLA from Lalganj in Vaishali district, for pointing her hand towards the former while she stood up to speak on non-payment of wage under MGNREGA scheme.

The BJP MLA took objection to Annu’s gesture and told her “haath is taraf kar lenge” (I will bring your hand this side).”This infuriated Annu, who started yelling at Bhagirathi, first in Hindi and then in English. “I will not accept this…This is wrong,” she shouted innumerable times while rushing into the well of the House. All this continued to happen even as some woman JD(U) members as well as road construction minister, Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lallan Singh, tried to calm her.

She continued to do so for several minutes and all the appeal by the Speaker fell on the deaf ears.Bhagirathi too tried to proceed menacingly towards the well, but was stopped by the Leader of Opposition Nand Kishore Yadav. He asked her to take her seat.

While all this drama was going on chief minister Nitish Kumar, was in his chamber. He had just left the House after giving a suo motu statement on the payment of compensation to farmers who suffered losses due to hailstorm.

The duel spilled over and Annu was stopped by the BJP MLA while she was approaching the Speaker’s chamber. Bhagirathi followed her to the chamber but was stopped by the staff requesting her to enter only after Annu comes out.The BJP MLA told reporters she would urge the Speaker to discipline Annu, wife of jailed don, Munna Shukla, or she would drag her to court.

She even planned to give it a Dalit colour but ws prevented from doing so by other party legislators.“I have done nothing. The JD (U) MLA was making gestue with her fingers so I made a comment in a friendly manner. Upon this she started abusing me in English,” the woman BJP MLA said.

Annu later told the mediapersons that she did not say anything wrong. She just said something in English. One can see it from the proceeding of the House. “Is it wrong to say something in English,” she asked.
