60 legislators among 16,000 consumers who surrender LPG subsidy in Bihar


Patna,(BiharTimes): Over 60 MLAs and MLCs of Bihar are among 16,000 consumers who have voluntarily surrendered their LPG subsidy in Bihar. In Patna, customers get a subsidy of Rs 287.79 per refill. The annual figure would be Rs 3,453.48 per customer.


Most of the legislators who have responded to the prime minister Narendra Modi’s call to give up LPG subsidy belong to the BJP.


This disclosure was made at a function ‘Give It Up’, jointly organized by Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) and Hindustan Petroleum for creating awareness about surrendering LPG subsidy. Speaking on the occasion former deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi said giving up LPG subsidy voluntarily is an important mission towards nation building. He called upon all LPG consumers, who could afford to pay the market price for the cylinders, to be a part of this nation building exercise.SuMo urged the oil companies to approach all the people’s representatives as well as creamy layer of the society to voluntarily opt out of subsidy.


Leader of opposition in Bihar Assembly Nand Kishore Yadav and BJP MLA Amarendra Pratap Singh urged legislators not only to give up their subsidy but also motivate others who could afford it.


The General Manager of IOCL, R S Dahiya, said LPG is a highly subsidized commodity in India. The subsidy amount was about Rs 40,000 crore in 2013-14. The amount can be used for development purposes.


The Deputy General Manager of IOCL (LPG), A K Gupta, Hindustan Petroleum regional manager Varun Kumar, BPCL territory coordinator P K Ray and other officials were also present on the occasion.
