Nitish in Raxaul; quake toll in Bihar rises to 58


Patna,(BiharTimes): Even as the death toll due to earthquakes rose to 58 in Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar on Tuesday left for Raxaul in East Champaran by road.

A large number of Indians stranded in Nepal are being brought to this place and are being transported by air, road and rail to their respective destinations. They are being provided food and other essential items.


The state government has also appointed special district magistrate and superintendent of police for East Champaran, which otherwise witnessed maximum casualties due to earthquakes.A team of doctors has been deployed at the entry points on Indo-Nepal border in Sonbarsa, Bargania, and Bhitta to attend
to the people arriving from Nepal.Minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary will camp at Raxaul for the next few days.


According to state disaster management department (SDMD) principal secretary Vyasji Mishra the state government on Tuesday released Rs 400 crore of the sanctioned amount of Rs 1,760 crore for farmers hit by hailstorm and unseasonal rain on April 22.


A team of engineers has been formed in every district to inspect all high-rise structures and provide technical guidance to the builders. The engineers would be imparted training through videoconferencing by Prof A S Arya, former professor of IIT-Roorkee. He is an authority in structural
engineering.The SDMD secretary said now all civil engineers of the state government, private architects and contractors would be trained in construction of quake-resistant buildings on regular basis.
