Kejriwal & Nitish: Friends in need or friends indeed?

Patna,(BiharTimes): Arvind Kejriwal’s first trip to Bihar as the chief minister of Delhi has in fact more to do with the realpolitik than his crusade against corruption, which actually helped him come to power.

Virtually abandoning his past stand against Congress and Lalu Prasad, by visiting Bihar, he had actually endorsed the RJD-JD(U)-Congress combine in the state. He shared dais with chief minister Nitish Kumar and spoke on good governance. He highlighted as to how his government is being harassed by Narendra Modi-led establishment.

The visit came ahead of the announcement of election dates by the Election Commission and can technically not be termed as an election campaign for the grand alliance, yet the message was loud and clear.

As both Nitish Kumar and Arvind Kejriwal have common enemy in the Bharatiya Janata Party there is nothing surprising if the two join hands for a common cause.

Kejriwal is no force whatsoever in Bihar, yet Nitish made it a point to befriend him. In recent months the Bihar CM made a couple of trips to Delhi to meet his Delhi counterpart.

Nitish always backed Kejriwal in his struggle against the Narendra Modi government at the Centre, which is accused of destabilizing his government.

Nitish knew well that though Aam Admi Party is no force in Bihar, yet if it decides to put up candidates it may cut into some votes of the secular alliance and not of the NDA.

The grand alliance, which is fighting the battle for survivial is not at all in the position to lose even a single vote in any of the 243 Assembly segments of Bihar. Therefore, as a part of a strategy Nitish helped convince the AAP leadership not to field candidates here.

What is significant is that Kejriwal used his Bihar visit to express support to the Land Acquisition Act of 2013 passed when the UPA was in power. He criticized the BJP’s stand on it and said that though the Act had some shortcomings it was much better than what the BJP had actually planned.

Thus he appears to have somewhat softened his stand towards the Congress too. The BJP was naturally perturbed and state party chief Mangal Pandey was quick to point out that Kejriwal can not oppose Congress any more. According to Pandey he had surrendered to to the grand alliance.
