JD(U) opts for ‘wheel’ as symbol as ‘arrow’ misses target in several constituencies

Patna,(BiharTimes): The Janata Dal (United) has decided to change its election symbol from ‘arrow’ to ‘wheel’.
According to party’s national spokesman K C Tyagi this decision has been taken unanimously by its national president Sharad Yadav, JD(U) state chief Bashishtha Narain Singh, chief minister Nitish Kumar and other senior leaders because several party candidates lost election due to confusion as a couple of other parties having almost similar symbols.
He claimed that at least four seats were lost as voters got confused with the ‘bow and arrow’ symbol of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha and Shiv Sena.
Observers are of the view that while JMM is essentially a party of Jharkhand and usually contest on a few seats in Bihar the jumping in the fray of Shiv Sena in a big way might have affected the prospects of some of the JD(U) candidates.
Though Shiv Sena is a constituent of the NDA this time it contested on many seats as its relationship with the BJP got strained. Even in Maharashtra these two parties contested last year’s October election separately.
The JD(U) wants to avoid this confusion in future elections.
Tyagi said that this fact came to light during a review of the results. He is hopeful that the party would get ‘wheel’ which was the symbol of the then Janata Dal before it got split.
