Another Chaudhary, this time Vijay, is new Bihar Speaker

Patna,(BiharTimes): Former water resources minister and senior JD(U) leader Vijay Chaudhary was on Wednesday unanimously elected as the Speaker of Bihar Assembly.

He succeeded Uday Narayan Chaudhary, who incidentally lost the Assembly election this time.

After the election chief minister Nitish Kumar ushered Vijay Chaudhary to the chair of the Speaker.
He said that though Vijay Chaudhary got elected on Janata Dal (United) ticket, he is now everyone’s Speaker. “I assure full cooperation from the treasury bench,” he added.

Speaking on the occasion deputy chief minister Tejaswi Yadav said that since this time many young legislators have got elected the experience of the new Speaker would help them a lot.

Leader of opposition Prem Kumar too assured full cooperation from his side in the day to day functioning of the House.

Former chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi, while quoting noted writer Munshi Prem Chand, said one occupying the post of ‘punch’ is neither anyone’s friend nor anyone’s enemy.

He thus hoped that the new Speaker would preside over the House without showing any bias. By stating so he was obviously referring to the outgoing Speaker Uday Narayan Chaudhary, whom he had accused of playing into the hands of chief minister Nitish Kumar.
