MCI flays Bihar govt for giving false assurances

Patna,(BiharTimes): The Medical Council of India has come down heavily on the state government for giving false assurances on improving the condition of the medical colleges of the state.

In a letter to the Bihar government, the MCI said that nothing substantial has been done so far to remove serious deficiencies, such as shortage in faculty, found in the medical colleges during inspection done for 2015-16 session though the chief secretary had given an undertaking to work to remove them.

According to the letter the state government had failed to honour its commitment to remove the deficiencies though the colleges were given a nod for the session keeping in mind the interest of the students. Thus no undertaking for the session 2016-17 would be accepted.

Lack of faculty is the basic problem of the medical colleges of Bihar. For example, Patna Medical College Hospital faces 22.85% faculty shortage for the year 2016-17. Some others face shortage of over 40 per cent.

Apart from faculty shortage, lack of infrastructure and other human resources are the most acute problems plaguing the medical colleges of Bihar for last many years.
