Country-made liquor shop-owners take to streets, meet RJD chief

Patna,(BiharTimes): Owners of country made liquor shops took to the streets of Patna on Wednesday to protest against what they alleged partial prohibition in the state.

Later in the day a group of them met RJD chief Lalu Prasad in the state capital to demand total prohibition in the state. They were agitated over the reported move of the state government to allow the sale of foreign liquor.

The latter pacified them saying the state government was committed to imposing total ban on sale of all types of liquor, including Indian made foreign liquor, from April 1.

As reported a high-powered committee under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Anjani Kumar Singh had a few months back suggested phasing out of composite liquor shops in rural areas and a total ban on sale of country liquor.

It was constituted after Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was on July 9 last compelled by women SHG volunteers at a function in Shri Krishna Memorial Hall to announce that he would impose prohibition if voted back to power.
