Sacked widow cook reinstated after DM’s intervention

Patna,(BiharTimes): Following a warning of strict legal action against parents by the district magistrate, Rahul Kumar, a widow, who was barred from cooking mid-day meals for children of a government-run middle school at Kalyanpur village in Gopalgunj district, was reinstated to her job.

The villagers protested against preparation of mid-day meal by Sunita Kunwar, a widow, and had even forced the school to be closed since Wednesday last. In her place Babita Devi was appointed.

Sunita (36), mother of two children, had approached Gopalganj district magistrate in this regard. She was among six women engaged in cooking food for children in the school. She gets Rs 1,000 per month as her salary.

The DM, along with the district education officer, Ashok Kumar, rushed to the village, got the locks removed and food prepared by Sunita and other cooks. They both, along with others, ate the meal.
