Bihar CM defends decision to transfer officials

Patna,(BiharTimes): Denying that there was corruption in transfer and posting of officials chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi on Monday defended his decision to replace Principal Secretary of road construction department, Arun Kumar Singh with Harjot Kaur.

As widely reported transfer of officials had irked the RCD minister, Rajiv Ranjan, alias Lallan Singh as well as the forest and environment minister P K Shahi. Both the ministers belong to the Nitish Kumar camp within the Janata Dal (United). They wrote to the Chief Secretary Anjani Kumar Singh asking him to explain under what rules the senior bureaucrats were being transferred frequently.

But the chief minister, while talking to the media on the sidelines of his weekly Janata Darbar, expressed his unhappiness over the performance of road construction department (RCD).Manjhi admitted that the two ministers had written to the chief secretary. He said that the chief secretary had sent his replies to the two ministers about the rules related to transfer and posting of the bureaucrats.

Let the matter be closed, he told journalists who asked about details of issues raised by the ministers. The chief minister said such decisions have been taken as per rules and the concerned bureaucrats have been given reasons for being shifted to carry out new responsibility for the public good in mind.

He recalled that a cabinet decision was taken in 2007 to authorise the chief minister to effect administrative reshuffle for which a committee has been constituted to take decision on transfer and posting of officials.
