Bihar CM Jitan Ram Manjhi resigns before trust vote in Assembly

 


Patna,(BiharTimes): Chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi resigned from his post minutes before the governor Keshri Nath Tripathi was to address the joint session of the state Assembly on Friday morning.The newsof reports came at around 10:30 AM minutes after the chief minister met the governor.


The decision to quit came after the chief minister and his supporters failed to get the support of the required number of MLAs of his party though the 87-member strong BJPLP was eager to back him in the House.Raj Bhawan confirmed the news of resignation.Earlier in the morning 128 MLAs of JD(U), RJD, Congress and CPI camped outside the Assembly with black badges on their mouths to protest against the governor’s speech.State BJP chief Mangal Pandey said that either Manjhi realized that he had no majority or he had no faith on the Speaker Uday Narayan Chaudhary.


The news of the resignation was greeted by the Nitish Kumar camp. Reports said that the resignation came after only five to six MLAs could reach the residence of Manjhi till 2:00 AM.Commenting on the resignation Shyam Rajak said that now Manjhi had betrayed BJP, which has supported him.

He will hold Press Confrence today at 11.30 am at 1 Anne Marg.
