Counter BJP with social media, JD-U workers told

Patna, Jan 21 (IANS) Leaders and workers of Bihar's ruling JD-U will use "social media" in a big way to counter Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP ahead of the state assembly polls later this year, a party leader said here Wednesday.

Former chief minister and senior Janata Dal-United leader Nitish Kumar has asked party leaders and workers to use social media as a new tool to counter Modi's real face before the people, the leader said.

"Nitish Kumar has urged the party leaders and workers for use of social media on large scale to expose the BJP and Modi's false propaganda," said the JD-U leader.

The leader was one of the hundreds of party men who attended the two-day training session chaired by Nitish Kumar here that ended Wednesday.

Another JD-U leader said Nitish Kumar stressed regular usage of social media like Facebook, Twitter, Youtube and Whatsapp to counter the BJP.

"Now party leaders and workers will start using social media like never before following Nitish Kumar's directive," he said.

Nitish Kumar, however, cautioned the JD-U members not to use social media to abuse or create sensation and hurt sentiments of others. He said social media should be use to spread the views of the party.

JD-U leaders close to Nitish Kumar said he has identified social media as an influential weapon to communicate fast.

"Nitish Kumar understand the importance of social media in political campaign and to reach out to people sooner than any other medium," a leader said.

Last year, Nitish Kumar said the BJP has turned social media into "anti-social" by belting out abuses on rivals.
