Lalu faces resistance from within as he tries to instal his son as a candidate for Assembly poll

Patna,(BiharTimes): Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) president Lalu Prasad on Saturday evening faced an embarrassment when he tried to launch his eldest son, Tej Pratap, as a candidate from the Mahua Assembly segment of Hajipur parliamentary seat.
As Tej Pratap started speaking a local RJD leader, Jageshwar Rai, climbed on the dais. Opposing Tej Pratap’s candidature he said he had been nursing this constituency for a long time, and thus had a genuine claim over it.
“Your father is the party chief. He is free to give party ticket to any-body he wants,” Rai said in front of visibly upset Lalu.
Soon the supporters of Tej Pratap and Rai started shouting slogans in favour of each other.
Upon this Lalu intervened. It was after much persuasion that the two sides could be pacified and peace restored.
Apparently the meeting was organised to seek people’s support to ensure victory of RJD candidate Subodh Rai from the local council seat, but Lalu wanted to use this occasion to test the mood of the local people by proposing his son’s name.
Tej Pratap had onece earlier this year gone to Mahua where he ad-dress a meeting and expressed his desire to contest from there.
Lalu may even field his youngest son Tejaswi from Raghopur, also in Hajipur parliamentary seat, which is represented by LJP leader and Union minister Ram Vilas Paswan.
Both these segments have sizeable Yadav population.
