Gaya boy who went for BSF recruitment test dies after return

Patna,(BiharTimes): Gaya boy Shyam Narayan Bhardwaj alias Siku (21), who went to Kishanganj for physical fitness test on July 1 for recruitment in the BSF but “returned beaten and bruised” died at a private hospital in the state capital early on Wednesday.

His death sparked off protest in Patna with students of Saidpur Hostel, where he used to live, staging demonstration near the Kargil Chowk. The body was later sent for post mortem.

Expelled RJD MP Pappu Yadav was quick to capitalize on the situation. He rushed to the spot and spoke in favour of the agitating students.

Though it all started in the BSF camp––this para-troop comes under the Union home ministry––Pappu blamed the state government for Siku’s death.

He also gave a call for Patna bandh on July 11.

Reports suggested that he was roughed up and beaten by BSF––and even by the Kishanganj Police––when he collapsed after taking part in the trial run for recruitment.

However, a video released by the BSF claimed that Siku misbehaved with their personnel when they rushed towards him.

Kishanganj SP Rajiv Ranjan said that the district police had nothing to do with the incident. According to him the district police went only after it was called by the BSF camp when Siku collapsed.

Siku, a native of Murera village under Konch block of Gaya district, was doing Math Honours from Patna University.
