Patna,(BiharTimes): After chief minister Nitish Kumar and Janata Dal (United) leader K C Tyagi it is the RJD chief Lalu Prasad who on Satur-day blasted the BJP chief Amit Shah for claiming that Narendra Modi is the first prime minister who hails from the backward castes.

Stating that the statement of Amit Shah is completely false and mis-leading he said H D Deve Gowda was the first backward caste prime minister of the country and not Narendra Modi.

Talking to the media Lalu said, as the president of Janta Dal after the 1996 Lok Sabha election, he called the meeting in Bihar Bhawan for appointment of Prime Minister. There were many senior politicians present there but he announced the name of Deve Gowda. So it was he who made the first Prime Minister from a backward caste in the history and not the BJP.

It needs to be recalled that Amit Shah on Friday said it was his party that gave the maximum number of OBC chief ministers and the first OBC prime minister to the country.
